I pack my lunch, and it’s not about being on a diet.
Sep 01, 2026
In my last post, we talked about the “Should” trap. We moved away from willpower and started talking about who you are becoming.
Today, I want to talk about one of the most powerful identity shifts I see in The Lounge. It sounds small, but it changes everything: "I am someone who packs my lunch."
When most of us hear “pack your lunch,” we think:
All day meal prep.
Boring containers.
Another chore on my Sunday to-do list.
But that’s a “should” mindset. That’s you trying to force a habit on a version of yourself that doesn’t really want it.
Here is the Identity Shift:
When you become “someone who packs her lunch,” the why changes.
You aren’t packing a lunch to lose 5 pounds.
You aren’t packing a lunch because you’re “supposed to.”
You are packing a lunch because you are someone who values your afternoon.
Think about the “old” way: You get to 2:00 PM. Your energy is crashing, your blood sugar is a roller coaster, and you’re suddenly craving everything in the breakroom or grabbing another sugary coffee. You aren’t making a conscious choice; you’re just trying to survive the rest of the day.
When you pack your lunch, you are making a promise to yourself. You are saying: “I value my afternoon energy too much to leave it to chance.”
When you eat a lunch that fuels you, protein forward, healthy fats, stable energy, you don’t hit that afternoon wall. You don’t spend your afternoon distracted by sugar cravings. You get to be the version of you that is focused, present, and calm.
Your challenge for this week:
Don’t worry about full meal prepping.
Just start here: Pack one lunch. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours. It has to be something that you know will make you feel good at 2:00 PM.
You are someone who takes care of yourself. Prove it with one lunch.
What’s the one thing you can pack tomorrow that makes you feel like you’ve got your own back?
Stay tuned for next week, where we’ll talk about the identity shift that makes ‘custom ordering’ at restaurants totally guilt-free.
I’m rooting for you,
Joanna
