Boring Daily Habits: The Protein Threshold

Jun 27, 2026

Last week, we broke through the sedentary slump with movement micro-doses. This week, we’re tackling the thing that derails more professionals than anything else: the dreaded 3:00 PM crash.

If you’ve ever found yourself staring into the office break room, wondering if anyone would notice the party size bag of chips missing, this one’s for you.

The Why
Here’s what most people get wrong about cravings: they think it’s a willpower problem. It’s not. It’s a protein problem.

When you don’t eat enough protein early in the day, your blood sugar goes on a rollercoaster. You spike after a carb-heavy breakfast, crash by mid-morning, grab another coffee and a muffin, spike again, and then freefall into the afternoon.

That 3:00 PM message of “I need a chocolate chip cookie and a nap, " that’s your body screaming for stable fuel. The fix isn’t more willpower. It’s threshold dosing of protein.

The Protocol
Here’s the simple rule I give every client in my Signature Concierge Coaching program:
Eat 30 grams of protein within 60 minutes of waking.
That’s it. That’s the threshold.
Thirty grams. Not twenty. Not “a Greek yogurt and a handful of almonds.” Thirty grams is the number that flips the metabolic switch.

What does 30g actually look like?
3 eggs + 2 chicken sausage links
1 scoop of high-quality protein powder (I can recommend brands if you need help deciding) + 1 cup of milk
6 oz of cottage cheese + 2 tbsp of pumpkin seeds

Notice what’s missing: toast, oatmeal, smoothie bowls heavy on fruit. Those come after the protein, not instead of it.

The good news...you can still have your coffee. Just make sure you drink your water first.

You don’t need an expensive supplement stack or complicated meal prep. You just need to shift what’s already on your plate. Move the carbs to the side. Put the protein front and center.

The Return on Investment
When you hit that 30g protein threshold:
Your blood sugar stays steady for 4-6 hours.
The 10:00 AM snack drawer loses its power.
The 3:00 PM sugar craving doesn’t show up.
Your energy stays level.
You’re not fighting cravings all day. You’re preventing them from ever starting.

Next week, we’re slowing things down with a habit that’s been hiding in plain sight: the evening wind-down. It’s not about expensive sleep hygiene gadgets or fancy teas. It’s about one simple rule that tells your nervous system it’s safe to rest.

Your goal this week: start your day with 30g of protein. No counting. No complicated math. Just one threshold.
