The Most Powerful Question a Client Ever Asked Me
Sep 02, 2025
Hi Friends,
I want to share a story with you about a recent coaching call I had with a client during our 3rd session together. It was the end of the call, we were scheduling our time to chat for the next week, and she said, “When are you going to ask me to do something hard?
A huge smile spread across my face. Internally, I was cheering. This is exactly why I do what I do, I thought. I responded to her and simply said, “I’m not.”
I actually loved that she asked, because I knew exactly where that question was coming from. It was a reflection of a lifetime of conditioning from the “wellness industry.” See, lots of us grew up around the world of 6-week shreds, restrictive detoxes, killing ourselves in the latest cardio class, and the “no pain-no gain” mentality. Unfortunately, for most women, it sets us up for that familiar cycle of intense effort, overwhelm, burnout and then feeling like failures when we can’t sustain it. I know that her question came from a place of expecting that same exhausting cycle.
My entire coaching practice is built upon the “doable-not-hard” principle. My clients and I work on sustainable, stackable habits that can easily be implemented into even the busiest of lives. Trust me, I’ve been there too! True, lasting change doesn’t come from a 6-week shred; it comes from small, simple, almost boring actions that are repeated until they become second nature.
For example, one of the first things I ask clients to do is get 10 minutes of morning sunlight before looking at their phone. This ‘not hard’ task single-handedly helps regulate your cortisol rhythm for all-day energy and sets your brain up for better sleep at night.
Another ‘not hard’ habit is to drink a glass of water before drinking your morning coffee. This simple act rehydrates your body after 8 hours of sleep, kickstarting your metabolism and clearing brain fog.
A third foundational tip is making sure to breathe intentionally throughout the day. Taking just three deep, slow breaths can instantly calm your nervous system and lower feelings of stress in a matter of seconds.
These things aren’t ‘hard.’ But are they powerful? Absolutely.
So, if you’ve been bracing yourself for the ‘hard part’ of your health journey, I want you to exhale. If you’re tired of the all-or-nothing cycle and are ready for a gentler, more effective way, then you’re in the right place.
This is the exact work I do with my clients in my 12-week coaching program. We don’t do ‘hard.’
We do strategic, simple, and sustainable.
If this sounds like the kind of support you’ve been looking for, I invite you to book a free discovery call. We can explore what ‘doable’ would look like for you.
