Riding the Blood Sugar Rollercoaster
Think of your energy as a rollercoaster. When you eat a meal high in carbs or sugar (think a bagel or pasta), it quickly turns into sugar in your blood and causes a huge spike in energy.
Your body sees this spike as an emergency and releases a flood of insulin to clean up the sugar. But often, it overreacts, pulling too much sugar out of your blood.
The result? Your blood sugar plummets and this is "the crash."
That’s the brain fog, the irritability, and the intense craving for more sugar—your body is trying to get its fuel source back to a stable level, and fast.
The Connection to Stubborn Belly Fat
But the energy crash is only half the problem. Insulin is also known as the fat-storage hormone.
When insulin is high, it flips a switch in your body that says, "Stop burning fat for fuel!” It then takes any excess sugar your cells don’t need for immediate energy and stores it as fat, typically right around your middle.
So, the same hormonal process that tanks your energy is also preventing you from losing weight.
You Can Get Off the Ride
The good news? It’s a cycle you can break, not by eating less, but by eating smarter. It all starts with building your meals to prevent that initial spike.
