The 10-Second Chewing Rule That Saves Your Gut

Jul 21, 2025

You can swallow a burger in just a few bites… but your stomach doesn’t have teeth. Most of us eat on the go like we’re racing against the clock. I'm guilty of it too!  The result? Undigested chunks of food enter the gut, ferment, and—boom—bloat, gas, and that post-meal slump.

Here’s the fix so simple it feels like cheating: the 10-second chewing rule. No pills, no pricey powders—just your fork and a little patience.

WHY CHEWING MATTERS:
• Saliva starts breaking down carbs and fats before they ever reach your stomach.
• Smaller food particles = less fermentation = way less gas and bloat.
• Satiety signals are able to catch up—so you eat the amount your body actually needs.

THE 10-SECOND RULE:
Take a bite. Put your fork down. Chew until the food is applesauce-soft—about 20–30 chews or a slow 10-count. Pick up your fork again only when your mouth is empty. That’s it. Most people add about two extra minutes to the entire meal and walk away lighter—literally.

TRY IT TONIGHT: THE ONE-MEAL CHALLENGE:
Pick any meal tomorrow and eat it “fork-down style.”

Notice:
• How quickly you feel full
• Any change in post-meal bloat
• Energy levels an hour later

I'd love to hear your results!
