From Disordered Eating to True Healing: My Struggle Became My Strength

Last week, I shared how my journey started with making some baby food, questioning cleaning products, and all those powerful momma instincts kicking in. But if I really rewind the tape, the story starts even earlier. It starts with someone who never felt comfortable in her own skin.
Long before I was a mom, I was a kid who was painfully shy and, honestly, a little chubby. That feeling of not being “right” in my own body followed me for years. During college and into my 20s, that discomfort turned into a full-blown battle with disordered eating. I was trapped in a cycle of laxative teas, severely restricting calories, then binging, and punishing hours of cardio, all in a desperate attempt to force my body into a shape it never meant to be in.
It’s no surprise that my digestion eventually rebelled. When I was 25, I was diagnosed with IBS, but if you’ve ever received that label, you know it’s less of a diagnosis and more of a dismissal. It’s an umbrella term for “something’s wrong, but we don’t know what.” I felt hopeless and stuck. The approaches I was given were just more band-aids, never getting to the why.
But that pain became my purpose. My own years of struggle are the reason I’m so passionate about looking deeper. It’s why I don’t just hand clients a meal plan and send them on their way. I know what it’s like to be failed by quick fixes and surface-level answers. I know the difference it makes when someone finally listens and helps you look for the root cause.
In my next post, I’ll share how I finally broke the cycle, and how the principles of functional nutrition helped me heal my gut, make peace with food, and finally understand what my body had been trying to tell me all along.
